<p>Hello, guys :) This week was bitter-sweet…bitter because it was our last week with CREU and sweet because some progress was made in the
tasks I have been having troubles with from the past two weeks :)</p>
<p>To begin, if you guys remember I was trying to upload our github project on the Google Cloud Platform…and after trying for two weeks and
reaching out to their support, I figured I would try this week doing it through Github :) Just how my blog right now is on the internet
for all to see :), using the “.github.io” extension at the end of my blogs repository, perhaps I could do that with our project.</p>
<p>Github allows you (I believe…but not 100% sure) to have one free github.io site for your repo and so I tried changing our github
project’s repo name, adding the github.io extenstion at the end. After that did not work, I tried making our project own github account
and mirroring the project but got an error during the process.</p>
<p>I will continue to work on this because we want everyone to access our game of course :)</p>
<p>As far as the math, it just a matter of me finding a way to integrate it to our main code. My last (absolute last hehe) restort since my
methods this week didn’t work, is to rewrite the code of our game without the timeouts and jsut reconfigure it. By rewrite I mean just make a very very simply version just to get the math in there :)</p>
<p>Though CREU ends saturday, I will continue to work on this project because I think our purpose is great and for those who are at GHC to see our game better :) To help students with learning
disabilities :) And will keep posting here on the updates :)</p>
<p>Muchas Gracias CREU for a lovely experience in the world of research :)</p>Bom Dia :)Demo-ing on students :)2017-07-22T00:00:00+00:002017-07-22T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_40<p>Hola, a todos :)</p>
<p>This week was exciting because I was able to go to Girl’s Inc. and demo our Hopper’s Fables game on 6 & 7 year olds :) This was crucial
for our team to do because for feed back on what to improve and also for our results section for the paper we are writing to submit :)
Overall, the students enjoyed the game because they liked the graphics :) However, what I discovered was that they were having a hard time
playing the game unless I was right next to them telling them step by step what to do. From this observation, I felt that perhaps our game
is better suited for any older age group.</p>
<p>In addition, while at Girl’s Inc., I was supposed to conduct our overdue Activies plan. To remind you all, the activties consisted of
activities to better build our lanugage such as color association and word synonyms. However, the students found the activities unengaging
so they quickly lost focus and started to do there own thing.</p>
<p>Also, the two pressing task from last week are still unresolved. Though I was able to make progress (thanks to google forums and online
coding communities) it still is not perfect. The math pop ups are able to run on their own fine but getting them to syn with the timeout
functions with the main code is still an issue. I tried to see if I can get some positive results by just rewriting a function with
timeouts and taking them out to get it to work with the math, but I am unsure how that will affect the game as a whole.</p>
<p>To wrap up this weeks work, I finished writing my portion of our paper and share with our mentor about the study conducted at Girl’s Inc..</p>
<p>This week, my goal is make the math pop up work by Wednesday and continue to deploy our project on the google cloud.</p>Hola, a todos :)Coding and Deploying pt. 22017-07-14T00:00:00+00:002017-07-14T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_39<p>Hello :)</p>
<p>This past week I have been continuing to work on deploying our project and creating the math pop ups. So far no luck on both tasks, however some people today gave me some recommendations to try out:</p>
<ol>
<li>create a div and populate it with elements that present the math question and answer entry area.</li>
<li>Bootstrap Modal Plugin</li>
<li>Jquery Dialog</li>
</ol>
<p>Originally, I was trying to make the swal alerts (sweet alerts, an alternative to regular alerts just these are more artsy), but the
problem I could not overcomme was the timing. By that I mean we have other swal alerts in the game that notify the player when they have
completed a level. They math question should pop up before the other alert of letting the player know they can move on, because answering
the math question correct/wrong determines if they do move on. I believe it has something to do with the setTimeOut() functions and lets
see if I can continue to play with those.</p>
<p>I will try those recommendations today :) As far as deploying the website, I keep getting just the skeleton :( I contacted the google
cloud services to see if they can get me in a better direction :) But I need to figure this out before this coming monday because we will
be testing our game with some students from Girl’s Inc. and getting their thoughts on it so far.</p>
<p>Until these tasks are done, I will continue to work on them this comming week.</p>Hello :)Coding and Deploying :)2017-07-07T00:00:00+00:002017-07-07T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_38<p>Hello, Everyone :)</p>
<p>This past week I was working on developing the “pop-up” math questions that the player encounters while playing Hopper’s Fables. In addition,
I was put in charge in deploying our project on our google cloud so that it can be accessible on the internet for others. So far, both
tasks are not done but they are coming along. The problem I am facing with the “pop-up” math questions is having an image also appear for them to
answer the question if it is needed. In addition, I have been having to research how to get a “pop-up” math question to “execute” in between blocks.
This is because right now, the setup is configured to having the math question appear after once game scence. For now, that is ok but we would like to
surprise the player so they do not expect it :)</p>
<p>The way I started doing these “pop-up” math questions was by using the html form tag (which is a bit complicated), and
creating many functions but luckily my research mate Deja had a better solution :)</p>
<p>As far as deploying our website, I have only got it to display an “ugly skeleton” version. I will attach a photo below of what it looks like, and what
it is supposed to look like:

<p>This comming week, I will continue to solving these issues.</p>Hello, Everyone :)Coding the Math Portion :)2017-06-29T00:00:00+00:002017-06-29T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_37<p>Hola, Todos :)</p>
<p>Since I am free of graphics :), I was able to take time this past week to revising the code and making sure I understand everything that
has been coded so far from my research mates :) Deja, took time also to explain the main part of the code for our game so that I could do
my portion for the game, being the math section. The code was pretty straight forward, but you never know if you really understand unless
you start to actually code the functionalities.</p>
<p>So this week, I did that and was coding the math sections and making sure I am embedding the correct math questions into our game. In
addition, I learned more about JavaScript and how to call functions, and also create functions. It was a little slow at first because I
was trying to remember the basic set up for a functionality and it is not perfect but by next week it should be down. Also this week, I
tried to figure out how our team can get more than one block to execute because right now, if you put more than one command in the block
sequence, then it does something weird. That has been a challenge we are facing but I am sure we will find the solution :)</p>Hola, Todos :)About time :)2017-06-23T00:00:00+00:002017-06-23T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_36<p>Hello, Everyone :)</p>
<p>Good news :) I finally finished the graphics and can start helping build the language with my mates :) Though at the end, I did (of
course) get quite frustrated because some of the graphics kept disappearing, being deleted, or my changes were not being saved. I found
out it was because the file I was working on was too big.</p>
<p><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/152515268@N06/35451857511/in/dateposted-public/" title="Screen Shot 2017-06-23 at 10.44.28 AM"><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4258/35451857511_3a5b0be2fa.jpg" width="500" height="65" alt="Screen Shot 2017-06-23 at 10.44.28 AM" /></a><script async="" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>So what I ended up doing was creating another fresh file and storing half the graphics on there.</p>
<p>Overall, Vectr (the software I used), was an okay option for creating the graphics, for right now it got the job done and we are moving
forward :)</p>
<p>This comming week, I will be reviewing the code that Deja and Cindi have create so that we are all on the same page. Then I will be, of course, starting to code! I will update how that goes :)</p>Hello, Everyone :)The end is soon to come…2017-06-17T00:00:00+00:002017-06-17T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_35<p>Olá a todos :)</p>
<p>This week, as always, was doing as many graphics as possible so I can start helping code the blocks! I mainly was doing backgrounds and
editing the previous graphics to make sure they look good. I am really pushing to finish early this comming week, because we need them to
code the other block functionalities.</p>
<p>Below, I have attached a sneekpeak snapshot of the “Classroom Scene”.</p>
<p><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/152515268@N06/35386681696/in/dateposted-public/" title="Screen Shot 2017- 06-20 at 10.02.35 AM"><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4232/35386681696_9cde6cfecc.jpg" width="500" height="300" alt="Screen Shot 2017-06-20 at 10.02.35 AM" /></a><script async="" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>This biggest challenge of doing the graphics is making them look 3D because of the perpective we choose to go with. And about each scene
background takes me around an hour and sometimes more.</p>
<p>However, I did learn some new layering techniques so I do not have to draw every little thing all at once.</p>Olá a todos :)Star Wars Perspective Update…2017-06-09T00:00:00+00:002017-06-09T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_34<p>Hello :)</p>
<p>As I mentioned in the last blog, we redesigned the layout of our game, with having the images in a “Star Wars” perspective. I found this
perspective to be challenging because I had to make everything 3D. This is taking a lot of time, but it is worth it because it is starting
to all piece together!</p>
<p><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/152515268@N06/34371440494/in/dateposted-public/" title="Screen Shot 2017- 06-10 at 9.28.28 AM"><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4222/34371440494_a5d889d883.jpg" width="500" height="285" alt="Screen Shot 2017-06-10 at 9.28.28 AM" /></a><script async="" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>However, I did get backtracked because the software I am using, Vectr, reconfigured almost half the graphics. By that I mean, I am using a
layering tool so that creating the graphic will be easier. For example, I start with a base and build the details up from there. I tried
to salvage what I could by trying to find the missing layers, but I had to basically start from scratch :( The good news is that I learned
how to “lock” the layers so that they don’t move around or disappear on me again!</p>
<p>Because of this incident and my research mates getting the code to work (finally! yay!), they need graphics to start positing things in
place so we have prioritized what graphics need to be done!!</p>
<p>You might be wondering why it is taking me so long, I think I have been doing graphics since April! But to make just a head of one of the characters is more than 20 points.
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/152515268@N06/34829011980/in/dateposted-public/" title="Screen Shot 2017-06-10 at 9.39.08 AM"><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4279/34829011980_648ca66c81.jpg" width="363" height="190" alt="Screen Shot 2017-06-10 at 9.39.08 AM" /></a><script async="" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>This week, I should have everything completed and will start to be active in the coding process with all the graphics given!</p>Hello :)A Redesign….2017-05-29T00:00:00+00:002017-05-29T00:00:00+00:00https://katezelaya.github.io/Blog_33<p>This week, aside from working from the layout, my team and I had a change of heart for the visual design of Hopper’s Fables. Deja worked
on organizing the blocks with the graphics, with the story….it sounds complicated and it was! However, thanks to Deja’s lead we were
able to really get down to what we needed. We decided to scrap my previous graphics and go to a different approach. This may have back
tracked us a little, however I know this approach we are taking will be better than our previous one! Originally, all of the graphics were
in “1st person” perspective, and know to make it easier for the students and the success of the game, we decided to merge to perspectives,
so the game will be seen at a 45 degree. I did not have to completely start over, but as for backdrops I did. But since the first time I
started, I get quicker at it :) My research mates and I spent a good amount of time really going into detail about what graphic will go
with what scene!</p>
<p>My goal this week is to finish up the new backdrop scenes and the layout. I learned that trying to really organize the whole project,
really makes a big difference in the syn of the group, thanks to Deja for showing me that!</p>This week, aside from working from the layout, my team and I had a change of heart for the visual design of Hopper’s Fables. <p>This past week I was working on the layout of Hopper’s Fables Web App. I did this already in the past and it was messy and then I cleaned
up the code. However, I did not design it write and did not practice the correct HTML layout techniques. This time, I am using (or rather
attempting) CSS Flexbox Layout which will make the appreance of the web app look a lot better and also nothing will be hard coded. In
addition, my team and I have added to graphics we needed so I am working on those currently.</p>
<p>ALSO! I learned how to properly us classes and ids between HTML and CSS so I am able to control the layout better! This was really
exciting for me because I got confused when using them the last time I did the layout. Not only that, I also understood the full
difference between padding and margin. Knowing these information, I am sure this new layout will be much better.</p>Hola, todos :)
